About CropKit
This started from one question: why is hitting an exact size such a chore?

Why it exists
The common problem when preparing an image for social is not choosing what to keep. It is what to do when the original falls short of the spec. Most online tools either force an upscale or refuse outright.
CropKit treats filling the shortfall with a background as the default option, because it is the simplest way to satisfy a requirement without touching the original quality.
Why nothing is uploaded
Browsers are already good at image editing. If there is no reason to send a file to a server, not sending it is better. The wait disappears, and so does any question about where the photo ended up.
Why there are no platform frames
Frames that copy a platform's actual interface create trademark and copyright problems. Instead there is a safe area guide that marks in plain grey where buttons and captions sit. Same information, none of someone else's design.
How it is funded
CropKit is free and runs on advertising. Ads are placed where they do not cover the editing surface.
